“Painting is often an artist’s way of making sense of the world, and for me is an opportunity to look intensely at nature’s complexity and attempt to tap into something that can speak of a deeper experience. Nature is simultaneously fleeting and timeless, powerful and fragile, and a constant source of inspiration to me. It’s my intention when Painting to try and capture something of that experience, with the hope of creating something that others might connect with.

I have always been drawn to realism in art, and am interested in allowing the brushstrokes, drawing marks and sometimes incomplete areas, to work together to reveal an history, a sense of how the painting came to be. The delicate shifts of hue and light that can be found through careful observation are important to me, along with how these elements can be expressed to suggest mood and atmosphere.”
