My particular interest at the moment when I paint, is what lies beyond and marrying the vertical and horizontal. I interpret objects as shapes whether they are buildings or nature and this gives the painting an abstract quality.

I love to feel the paint with my hands and I use a variety of knives, brushes and mediums to get the textures, scratches and marks which gives life to the painting. I make the linen canvas from scratch, if I had the time to weave it, I would. This process fits in with my desire to strip something bare and give it a different meaning. I play with mood and emotion and its achieving the right balance that gives me that final sense of satisfaction - having the control seems to go against nature and I find that empowering.
